A Home Away From Home

Modern Shed

PORT TOWNSEND —While construction continues at our Modern-Shed Dwelling in Dallas, TX, we thought we’d revisit Modern-Shed’s original Dwelling in the Pacific Northwest.

Built in 2009, the 5,000-square-foot lot at the Corona Gardens boasts three separate Modern-Shed structures on one compound.

The 16-by-40-foot main house faces South and features glass paneling in the front to bring in lots of light and heat — much needed during our wet winters up here.

Radiant floor heating and ceramic heaters keep the place warm when sunlight isn’t enough, and the open floor plan creates a seamless flow between rooms.

During the summer, the glass doors open to bring the outdoor living space into the indoor.

The house also features taller ceilings than our typical Modern-Sheds.

The compound includes a 12-by-24-foot guest quarter with kitchen, bathroom and bunk beds, as well as a 10-by-10-foot kids bunkhouse with enough room for children to sleep and play.

The Port Townsend Modern-Shed Dwelling is available for rent at $175 per night, with a $50 cleaning fee. Rent is $150 per night for just the main house. Visit http://www.vrbo.com/424020 to rent.
